Soft Condensed Matter researcher Laura Filion is to receive a Vidi grant from NWO. With the grant of 800,000 euros, the laureate will develop her own, renewing research project. The Vidis are meant for excellent researchers who have obtained their doctorates and have subsequently successfully been conducting research for a number of years.
Birth of a crystal nucleus: The transformation from a liquid to a crystal starts with the spontaneous formation of a tiny crystal nucleus. In order to improve our control over this process, the researcher will develop computer algorithms to explore how hidden structure in the liquid can be controlled to guide the nucleation process.
